What do I pack in my birth bag?

Your due date is getting close and all of a sudden you realize, “I need to pack a bag! What do I bring with me?”. Well, here’s a great list to start with. And keep in mind, you don’t need to bring EVERYTHING on the list, but it’ll give you some good ideas and remind you of some things you may not have thought of.

For you:

  • Your birth plan, make a couple of copies to share with the nurses and doctor/midwife.

  • Your insurance card/information

  • Your wallet

  • Your glasses or contacts, along with contact solution, contact case or glasses case

  • Easy snacks for you and your partner: granola bars, nuts, honey sticks, protein bars, rice cakes with almond butter, my favorite meatsticks, etc.

  • Your favorite water bottle with a straw to keep you hydrated

  • Lip balm

  • Hair ties or clips

  • Toothbrush/toothpaste

  • Warm socks or slippers

  • Extra maternity undies

  • Comfy nightgown/pj’s that are easy to breastfeed in, this one or this one are favorites!

  • Comfy maternity clothes to wear home

  • Cell phone and charger

  • Extension chord for your charger that will reach your hospital bed

  • Camera

  • Toiletries like makeup, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner

  • Bluetooth speaker if you made a playlist to play during your birth

  • Essential oils/diffuser

  • Your favorite pillow from home

For baby:

  • Swaddle, this one or this are both popular picks!

  • Outfit and hat for wearing home

  • Carseat

  • Warm blanket for car ride home

  • Newborn diapers and wipes
